Frozen Soul kicked off a wild night as the first of four bands that destroyed the Astro Theater in LaVista, Nebraska on March 29th. Frozen Soul wasted no time getting the evening started by ripping through the song Encased in Ice. The crowd was up and ready to roll from the second the lights went down. Frozen Soul is described as straight forward, in your face death metal. And that is exactly what they showed Omaha on this night. The Texas based group warmed up the crowd and left them battered and bruised for the rest of the evening’s bands. The stage was set up in their signature icy aesthetic, complete with blue lights.

The thick, chugging guitars, guttural vocals from frontman Chad Green, and punishing drum work created an atmosphere both oppressive and exhilarating. The band’s stage presence matched their music—no frills, just raw energy and tight execution. They tore through tracks such as Invisible Tormentor and Death and Glory.

This was my second time getting to see Frozen Soul, first time getting to shoot photos of them. One thing I can say for sure is that they definitely keep the audience engaged. The crowd was in for a long night with the nard core line up, but Frozen Soul definitely left them begging for more. Even as they ended their set with Crypt of Ice, the crowd wasn’t ready for them to be done. It’s a lot of fun to watch when a band can create that kind of connection with the crowd.

The set was hard and fast…maybe ending too fast for some in the crowd. As the first of four bands for the night Frozen Soul was up for to the task and set the tone for everyone else for the rest of the night. The bar was set pretty high…I couldn’t wait to see how the rest of the night would go.
